The Family Place is partnering with Creating A Family to supplement the educational portion of our monthly Foster Chat group. Join us the last Tuesday of the month 6-8 pm if you are currently, or have in the past fostered, adopted, or had a kinship placement.
We were selected to be part of a pilot program for the Support Group Toolkits from Creating a Family, the national adoption and foster education and support nonprofit. Creating a Family's mission is to strengthen and inspire adoptive, foster & kinship parents and the professionals who support them by creating engaging, easy-to-implement, expert-based resources and training for parents & professionals. Their goal is to bridge the divide between the research and parent communities. The Support Group Toolkits are based on topics relevant to strengthening adoptive, foster, and kinship families. Each toolkit includes a video, facilitator’s guide, handouts, and additional resource list on a specific topic and groups select the topic they want to cover each month. An example of some topics available for groups to choose from includes:
- Overcoming ACEs
- Helping Kids Heal from Abuse and Neglect
- Managing Expectations
- Parenting Neglected Children
- Sensory Issues
- Understanding the IEP Process
In addition, participation in the Support Group Toolkits Pilot Program includes initial facilitator training and ongoing support for facilitators.
