The Family Place is excited to present a new eight week parenting program, called Circle of Security. These groups are based on "decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened."  It is a map to help you make sense of what your child is needing and asking from you, using your own reflection and intuition as you know your child better than anyone else.  The groups develop a strong connection of support in an open, learning environment with a maximum of 10 participants.

Using the COSP™ model developed by the Circle of Security originators, trained facilitators work with caregivers to help them to:

  • Understand their child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs
  • Support their child’s ability to successfully manage emotions
  • Enhance the development of their child's self esteem
  • Honor the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure

A group is currently under way in collaboration with Rise and Shine's after school program and Bethel A Baptist Church.

Look for an evening group to start in this Spring and a third group for teen moms this summer.

As we expand funding for this model, we will offer additional groups.
